The Abashiri Fireworks close the Abashiri Okhotsk Summer Festival on July 25 in Abashiri, Hokkaido. Overview
On July 25, the Abashiri Fireworks bring the Abashiri Okhotsk Summer Festival to its close. The launch sites sit by the west breakwater and Boushi-iwa, across the water from the Abashiri roadside station, and 12,000 shells go up between 8:00 and 8:45 pm before a crowd of about 50,000. Wide star mines blanket the whole sky, and the program leans on large calibers — 2-shaku shells opening to roughly 500 meters across. The choreography runs in sync with music, pairing light and sound throughout. From JR Abashiri Station, a taxi covers the trip in about 10 minutes, and free parking is available at the venue.
