Summary

The Sendai Tanabata Fireworks Festival began in 1970 as a pre-festival event for the Sendai Tanabata Festival and has built a history spanning over half a century. With approximately 16,000 shells launched annually, it is one of the largest displays in the Tohoku region, and is a rare urban fireworks festival nationwide where grand blooms of fireworks adorn the night sky above the city center as their canvas. The main theme for 2026 is 'HOPE ~ Blooming Together, Flowers for the Future ~,' expressing the wish to fill the night sky with the hope residing in each citizen's heart. Each burst of light weaves together the thoughts and journeys of the people living in Sendai, aiming to become a starting point that illuminates a bright future.
