Summary

On August 8, Natori City's summer festival spreads across the area around the Disaster Memorial Park in Miyagi. Held yearly in memory of those lost to the 2011 disaster, in thanks to those who aided recovery, and in hope for the years ahead, it opens with a ceremony at 4 pm and keeps stalls and stages busy until 9:30 pm. From 7:30 to 8:20 pm, some 10,000 shells go up — shakudama and star mines from around the country alongside music-synced pieces.

Overview

On August 8, Natori City's summer festival takes place around the Disaster Memorial Park in memory of those lost in the Great East Japan Earthquake, in thanks for recovery support, and with hope for the future. The opening ceremony begins at 4 pm, stalls and events run until 9:30 pm, and from 7:30 to 8:20 pm about 10,000 fireworks go up. The program draws on shakudama shells and star mines from around the country as well as music-synced fireworks. JR Natori Station is a 15-minute walk, with a paid shuttle bus running from Natori City Hall (details on the official site). Parking is set up at Yuriage elementary/junior high schools and the multi-purpose field on the Natori River riverbed — 3,000 yen, first come first served — and paid seats with parking included are also on sale.
