Summary
The Ogachi Grand Fireworks rise over the Yakiai riverbed upstream of Shin-Manseki bridge in Yuzawa City, Akita, on 8 August — 5,000 shells across 90 minutes, watched by around 120,000 (2024). The district is hot-spring country, home to the Akinomiya resorts and Yunozawa onsen, and is said to be the birthplace of the poet Ono no Komachi. A 2,000-space temporary car park charges ¥1,000 per vehicle.
Overview
Ringed on three sides by the Dewa mountains, the venue turns the terrain into part of the show: bursts climb over the ridgelines and sound rolls around the hollow. The hot-spring setting makes an unusual pairing — an afternoon soak, a mountain-basin festival night, then the drive home. JR Yokobori Station is 20 minutes on foot, or about 3 minutes by car from Ogachi-Komachi IC. Arrive 1.5–2 hours early for viewing spots in the more central, sky-open stretches of the riverbed, and expect queues leaving the ¥1,000-per-car temporary parking.
