It is held in a hot spring area featuring Akinomiya Onsen Village and Yunosawa Onsen, surrounded on three sides by the Dewa Mountains. At the 48th edition, under the theme 'Tohoku-Chuo Expressway: A Road Connecting Dreams. Into the Next Era with Light,' creative fireworks inspired by the bittersweet feelings of love are showcased, in reference to the area being the birthplace of Ono no Komachi.
