In concours format, fireworks masters from across Japan launch shells they have manufactured themselves, judged on design, color and creativity across four divisions: daytime fireworks, the 10-gou shin-iri warimono division, free shells, and creative fireworks that explore new expression. The Prime Minister's Award is among the prizes. About 18,000 shells launch across the day and night programs. The venue is a 30-minute walk from JR Omagari Station; the Akita Shinkansen, Tazawako and Ou lines run extra trains until around midnight. By car it is about ten minutes from the Akita Expressway Omagari IC, though vehicle closures and other restrictions apply in the city on the day. About 1,900 parking spaces are provided, some paid — parking inquiries go to Daisen City Hall (0187-73-7931).
