Summary

The 73rd Mamurogawa Festival closes on August 17 with about 2,000 fireworks over the Mamurogawa riverbed, launched between 19:00 and 21:00. Strings of 10-gou shells open huge flowers over the water, alongside message fireworks and music-synced pieces. Earlier in the day, the Mamurogawa Ondo parade and a music festival animate the street by the station.

Overview

The festival day belongs to the whole town: the parade and music festival fill the street by JR Mamurogawa Station before the riverbed takes over as the stage. Strings of 10-gou shells bloom right across the water from the crowd, and the program swings between message fireworks and music-synced pieces over roughly 2,000 shells. Viewing is free with no paid seats, and about 300 free parking spaces sit at the park, community center and town hall — each a short walk from the river.

Info for International Visitors

Best arrival time

Aim to reach the riverbed 30–45 minutes before the start. The riverside viewing area turns over more often after dark, so settling on a spot from the parade hours lets you watch in comfort. The venue is a 10-minute walk from the station.

With kids

Keep a safe distance from the river on the riverbed and keep children within sight. The evening runs late, so earplugs and a blanket help younger kids who get sleepy.

Photography tips

The 10-gou shells spread across the whole sky, so a wide frame makes them easier to capture. Adding the fireworks reflected in the river in the foreground gives the shot a Mamurogawa-landscape feel.

Payment

Viewing is free with no paid seating. Food stalls generally take cash, so bring coins. Free parking totals about 300 spaces at Mamurogawa Park, the community center and the town hall.
