The historic Sakata Fireworks, which began in 1929 to commemorate the designation of Sakata Port as an important port. In 2026, the event is packed with highlights including the simultaneous launch of three powerful 2-shaku shells, collaborative fireworks by renowned pyrotechnicians from across Japan, and a massive aerial Niagara spanning approximately 1,350 meters that takes advantage of the wide launch area along the Mogami River. Additionally, a fireworks academy festival planned by local high school students under the theme "Shikisai no Sakata" (Four Seasons of Sakata) will feature fireworks designs submitted by students, with a total of approximately 10,000 shells illuminating the night sky of Sakata.
