Summary
Mibu Furusato Festival, held on August 22 at the athletic stadium in Mibu Town, Tochigi. From 6:30 pm the Kanpyo Ondo folk dance celebrates the town's signature dried gourd, and around 2,000 fireworks follow from 8 pm. If it rains the event moves to August 23, with fireworks only from 7 pm if that day is wet too.
Overview
The festival draws roughly 30,000 people to Mibu Town General Park. The evening starts with the Kanpyo Ondo dance, said to be easy for anyone to join, before the fireworks begin at 8 pm. From Omocha no Machi Station West Exit or Kuniya Station it is a 25-minute walk; free shuttle buses link the station, Mibu castle-park parking and the health & welfare center lots, since parking at the venue is limited. In rain the festival shifts to August 23, and if that day is also wet, fireworks only run from 7 pm — the dance is not rescheduled.
