Summary

A summer tradition in Minamiboso City, Chiba Prefecture, this festival began in 1964. It is a festival to pray for the bounty of the sea and to honor those who lost their lives at sea. A particular highlight is the 'Ama no Daiyaei' (Great Night Swim of the Ama Divers), where female divers dressed in white robes swim through the night sea holding torches, creating a mystical spectacle. The finale features underwater fireworks, passionately heralding the arrival of summer.
