Summary

The JGSDF Narashino Garrison in Funabashi City, Chiba Prefecture, opens to the public for its annual summer festival, which draws a lively crowd of locals every year. The garrison is known as the home of the 1st Airborne Brigade, Japan's only paratrooper unit, and the general public open days held several times a year offer a rare opportunity to experience Self-Defense Force facilities up close—places normally off-limits. The venue is packed with attractions for both adults and children, including a haunted house and kids' athletic activities, along with a wide variety of food stalls. The finale features approximately 850 shells launched directly overhead for about 20 minutes, brilliantly coloring the night sky. Free admission and no advance registration required make it easy to drop by with family and friends.
