A major summer event for northwestern Chiba, the 2026 Teganuma Fireworks Festival takes place on August 1. Around 13,500 shells are launched across two venues — Kashiwa and Abiko — each with its own programme of fireworks, and combined attendance reaches about 490,000. In 2018 the festival was chosen as a 'Chiba cultural asset to pass on to the next generation', and its running costs are still supported by citizen donations and corporate sponsorship. Viewing is free, but reserving paid seating in advance is the surest way to secure a good spot; food stalls line the venue areas and generally take cash, so carry small bills. The Kashiwa venue is about a 25-minute walk from JR Kita-Kashiwa Station, or 40 minutes from the east exit of Kashiwa Station; for the general viewing area, a bus from Kashiwa Station East Exit runs about 15 minutes to the Oi stop, followed by a 20-minute walk. The Abiko venue is a 10-minute walk from the south exit of Abiko Station. No venue has parking and traffic restrictions apply on the day, so travel by public transport.
