Summary

An annual event held at Katakai Central Beach in Kujukuri Town, Sanbu District, Chiba Prefecture. Held on the first Saturday of August every year, it is known as one of the premier midsummer festivals in Chiba Prefecture. The event features a succession of programs rich in local color, starting with an evening market in the late afternoon, followed by a parade of the traditional "Hyottoko Dance" passed down in Kujukuri, and bon dancing around a raised platform for children and adults alike. The climax is the launch of approximately 2,500 shells from the expansive sandy beach of Kujukuri, with brilliant blooms of light adorning the night sky amid the sea breeze and the sound of the waves. Numerous food stalls are also set up, and the summer night deepens in a liberating seaside atmosphere.
