[*Only the event dates and times have been updated with 2026 information. Details for upcoming events will be updated as they are finalized.] Originating from a roughly 1.6-million-year-old whale fossil discovered in the city in 1961, the 'Akishima Citizen Whale Festival Dream Fireworks' is a summer tradition symbolizing Akishima City, Tokyo. In its 54th edition, approximately 2,000 shells centered on star mines will be launched over about 30 minutes, with magnificent bursts spreading overhead. The greatest appeal is being able to feel the power of the sound and light up close, as the launch site and viewing areas are in close proximity. Since the fireworks are held as part of the festival, another highlight is being able to enjoy the event all day long, from daytime to night.
