Overview

Kojiri is a quiet stretch of shore on Lake Ashi's north side, where the fireworks follow the shrine rites at Kuzuryu Shrine — rites that are not open to visitors, so the evening display is what the public comes for. The small bay gives the 20-minute show a concentrated acoustic character, the 2,200 shells echoing off the mountainsides. The week's fifth night falls on August 4. Buses run about 45 minutes from Hakone-Yumoto Station to the Kojiri stop (or 40 minutes to Togendai plus a 10-minute walk), and while a 200-space lot exists (1,000 yen per visit, partly free), the mountain roads argue for the bus at night.
