The Yahiko Lantern Festival in Niigata Prefecture is one of Japan's Three Great Lantern Festivals, designated as a National Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property. This festival is a lantern ritual that has been passed down at Yahiko Shrine for approximately 1,000 years and is deeply rooted in the region as a summer grand festival. The dedication fireworks display adds color to the grand lantern procession of the lantern ritual. On the night when the large lanterns parade through the streets, approximately 250 shells of various sizes light up the night sky with gratitude and prayers to Yahiko Shrine.
