Overview
The show is the closing act of the latter half of Joetsu Matsuri, when the festival's main stage moves from the Takada district to Naoetsu — hence its other name, the Naoetsu Gion Festival. The custom is for the fireworks to begin as the mikoshi that paraded through the castle town of Takada begin descending the Seki River toward Naoetsu. Launches centre on the area around the Araibashi bridge, with shakudama shells and starmines casting light over the water, while the lanterns of the Manto display and neighborhood stalls brighten the riverbank. Naoetsu Station is a 10-minute walk away; free parking holds about 400 cars and traffic restrictions apply around the venue on the day.
