Held annually on August 2 and 3, this fireworks festival embodies the special sentiments of the people of Nagaoka City, who have overcome repeated hardships — including prayers for the repose of those who perished in the Nagaoka air raid, gratitude to the predecessors who devoted themselves to reconstruction, and wishes for lasting peace. Viewing areas are set up on both banks of the Shinano River, allowing spectators to watch the fireworks from both directions. Taking advantage of this characteristic, it is a rare fireworks festival featuring many displays that make extensive use of shakudama.
