A festival held in Nishikan Ward, Niigata City, cherished locally as a seasonal tradition heralding the beginning of summer. The 'Maki Summer Festival' is held over three days, with the fireworks display taking place from 8 PM to 9 PM on Saturday the 13th around Yagawa Park. Although modest in scale with approx. 200 shells, the display features mainly large shells, with powerful fireworks up to size 10-gou lighting up the night sky. The festival begins with folk song performances of 'Yakata Okesa' and 'Maki Jinku,' followed by a variety of events including a mikoshi procession and float parade dating back to the Edo period, brass band and dance performances by local junior and senior high school students, Etsu-O Taiko drumming, and Yosakoi dance performances, concluding with the traditional 'Yakata Kanto' lantern performance.
