Summary

The "Hokosai" festival, held annually on August 1st in Yamanakako Village, Minamitsuru District, Yamanashi Prefecture, is a traditional event that began in the Taisho era. It is held with the meaning of "honoring those who died in service, comforting their spirits, and expressing gratitude for the blessings of the lake so that no disasters may occur." The event consists of Shinto rituals and a fireworks display. Named by the literary giant Soho Tokutomi, this is the first fireworks festival among the Fuji Five Lakes. The launch sites are the Yamanakako lakeside for the Yamanaka area and Yamanakako Misaki for the Hirano area.
