Fireworks launched on Saturdays and Sundays during the 'Fuefukigawa Isawa Ukai' (cormorant fishing) held annually in Fuefuki City, Yamanashi Prefecture. Unlike the typical style of cormorant fishing from small boats seen elsewhere, the Fuefukigawa ukai employs the nationally unique 'Kachi-u' (walking cormorant fishing) method, where the cormorant master walks in the river while guiding a single cormorant — a fishing technique with over 800 years of history. Ukai event dates: July 20 (national holiday) to August 16 (Sunday), Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays, for a total of 17 days. On Saturdays and Sundays during the ukai event (including July 20, August 12, and 13), fireworks light up the midsummer night sky for about 10 minutes after the event concludes.
