The Iizuna Fire Festival is a traditional festival that recreates the 'Yamairi' ritual of Mount Iizuna by lighting sacred fire brought from the mountain. At Lake Oza Hoshi, the festival prays for 'warding off plagues, family safety, bountiful harvests, and good health' under the theme of 'Gratitude to the Mountain.' Approximately 1,000 shells of fireworks are launched over Lake Oza Hoshi, accompanied by a Saito Goma fire ritual by Mt. Takao Yakuoin Temple, live musical performances by artists, and a fantastical display of light and water.
