Overview
Set in the lakeside park on the western shore of Lake Suwa, the festival pairs fireworks with sky lanterns. Sky lanterns replaced the older toro-nagashi on environmental grounds: register in advance, write a wish, and watch the lanterns drift over the lake. From 19:45, about 2,000 shells go up over the water, their reflections spreading across the surface. JR Okaya Station is a 15-minute walk, or about 10 minutes by car from the Chuo Expressway Okaya IC. The free parking lot typically fills by 18:00, so either come by train or arrive well ahead. Food stalls are set up on site.
