Summary
The Ichida Lantern Floating Grand Fireworks, held on August 18 by the Tenryu river near Myojin Bridge in Takamori Town, Nagano, have run every year since 1923. About 1,000 shells light the evening alongside lanterns swaying on the water — one of the largest such events in southern Shinshu.
Overview
Lanterns drifting on the Tenryu and the bursts overhead make a memorable pairing. Extra trains run from Ina-Oshima and Iida Stations on the day, and Ichiada Station is a five-minute walk from the banks. Five hundred free parking spaces sit near the town hall with shuttle buses, but vehicles cannot enter the Dezawahara district after 6 pm. Paid seats and food stalls are both available.
