Kaga Onsenkyo Noryo Hanabi Matsuri in Katayamazu Onsen sets off about 200 fireworks over Shibayamagata lagoon every night from August 1 to 21, 2026, between 9:00 and 9:10 pm. Facing the hot-spring town, the venue lets you watch from the lakeside promenade, lake-view guest rooms, or — for a fee — a fireworks kayak on the water. A carnival with food stalls runs in Yunomoto Park during the period, and the season draws some 100,000 visitors in total.
Overview
The show runs for three summer weeks, which makes it one of the most flexible fireworks events to plan around: the lagoon lights up nightly at 9 pm for roughly ten minutes. Because the launch site sits directly in front of Katayamazu Onsen, the distance between launch and viewer is short, and the water reflects every burst. Rooms with a lake view let you watch without going outside, and the paid fireworks kayak offers a rare on-the-water vantage. Access is about 10 minutes by taxi from JR Kaga-Onsen Station or 7 minutes from the Katayamazu IC; free parking holds roughly 100 cars near the Katayamazu district hall and Yu no Kuruwa plaza.
