67th Mizunami Mino Genji Tanabata Festival: Mizunami Kigan Grand Fireworks Festival: The interplay of elaborately designed staging and fireworks is a must-see
The Mizunami Prayer Grand Fireworks light up the Toki River bank in Mizunami, Gifu, from 19:30 on August 8, closing day one of the two-day Mino-Genji Tanabata Festival. Around 4,000 shells rise together with written wishes from residents — an unusual prayer-fireworks format. The 2026 theme is 'MADE IN MIZUNAMI'. JR Mizunami Station is an 8-minute walk and the venue has no parking.
Held 19:30–20:00 on August 8 on the Toki River bank in front of the Mizunami General Culture Center, this display sends up about 4,000 shells for a crowd of around 30,000. Its signature is the prayer fireworks, which carry citizens' wishes into the sky as written prayers; the 2026 theme is 'MADE IN MIZUNAMI — the night sky we create in Mizunami'. Star-mines and varied programs follow the prayers, while Basara dance and live music keep the festival grounds busy from daytime. The venue has no dedicated parking: use the city lots at Chuo Park or north of JR Mizunami Station (limited spaces) and walk 8 minutes south from the station. Food stalls mostly take cash, so bring small bills.
