Summary

On Sunday, August 16, 2026, a dedication fireworks display rises at Kubawara in Yamaoka, Ena City, Gifu, from 19:40. The fireworks are offered to the Tsumekiri Jizo each August 16, alongside a festival whose name comes from the legend of Kobo Daishi carving letters into a stone tablet with his fingernails. Alongside conventional shells, local residents devise original fireworks, giving the night a homespun warmth. The venue is about 30 minutes on foot from Yamaoka Station on the Akechi Railway, or 25 minutes by car from Ena IC on Routes 19 and 418; traffic restrictions begin around the venue at 6 pm, so arrive early if driving.
