A fireworks festival held on the riverbed of the Abekawa River, which flows between Aoi Ward and Suruga Ward in Shizuoka City. Over 10,000 shells are launched into the summer night sky from a sandbar in the Abekawa River. The festival began with prayers to console the souls of the victims of the Great Shizuoka Air Raid and for postwar recovery, and now marks its 73rd edition as a historic event. Each year, the riverbanks on both sides bustle with countless spectators, and the lively shouts from night stalls evoke the nostalgic atmosphere of a good old-fashioned Japanese summer festival.
