59th Dogashima Fire Festival

Summary

A fireworks festival held on the sea at Dogashima in Nishiizu Town, Kamo District, Shizuoka Prefecture. Legend has it that about 600 years ago, one night when pirates had passed out drunk on their ships, young people shot flaming arrows and raided them to defeat them. This festival reenacts the legend of how the local people defeated the pirates who had tormented them. Food stalls line the venue, and visitors can enjoy local cuisine.
