Held annually in late July in Arai-cho, Kosai City, Shizuoka Prefecture. Known as a 'mystical festival of the sea road' continuing since the mid-Edo period, dozens of tezutsu fireworks tubes are ignited simultaneously amidst the sounds of flutes, drums, and conch shells. In particular, the tezutsu fireworks called 'Sarutahiko Enka' feature men carrying fireworks while shouting 'Soradase! Daseyo!' with great vigor, laughing and parading through a shower of falling sparks. Rather than a fireworks event, this is a festival conducted according to ancient rites as part of Shinto rituals, with the aim of properly passing down the techniques and knowledge of traditional tezutsu fireworks to future generations.
