The Osu Summer Festival closes in a burst of hand-held tezutsu fireworks at Osu Kannon temple in Naka Ward, Nagoya. Across the two festival days there are bon dances, parades and live shows on a special stage; on the final day, August 2, roughly 90 tezutsu tubes begin firing around 7 p.m. The festival as a whole draws an expected 250,000 visitors, packing the downtown temple district in a way only a city-center matsuri can.

Tezutsu fireworks — tubes held in the hands, throwing columns of sparks skyward — form the finale of the two-day Osu Summer Festival at the Osu Kannon temple grounds, running alongside bon-odori dancing, parades and stage shows earlier in the program. The venue sits right in central Nagoya: two minutes on foot from Osu Kannon subway station, ten from Kamimaezu. With some 250,000 people expected across the festival, the area in front of the temple gets extremely dense around fireworks time, and food vendors line the surrounding streets. Start time is traditionally around 7 p.m., but confirm the day's schedule with the organizers before heading out.
