Summary
Held on August 14 at Higashihama Beach on Himaka Island, an octopus-famed island off the Chita Peninsula in Aichi, the Tako Festival fireworks send up about 800 shells in just ten minutes from 20:00, following performances by the island's taiko drum groups.
Overview
The island is reached by high-speed ferry, about 20 minutes from Kawa Port next to Kawa Station on the Meitetsu Kawa Line, or roughly 10 minutes from Morozaki Port. Watching from the sand, you feel each launch as much as see it, since the fireworks open almost overhead. There is no parking on the island itself; drive to the ferry terminal and cross by boat. Viewing is free and the show is short, so pairing it with an island dinner is a natural way to spend the evening.
