Overview

On the Yahagi riverbed deep in the hills of northeastern Toyota City, the fireworks climb from low launch positions and spread overhead, close enough that the report rolls straight across the water. Beforehand, from 17:30, the Koten Tenno festival rite sends drum processions and bearers of two-meter torches running through the district — a rite of passage into the summer night before some 1,000 shells take over the sky. Access is by car, about 30 minutes northeast from Edge Shita IC on the Sanage Green Road, with a free temporary lot of about 300 spaces a 3-minute walk from the riverbed.
