A fireworks festival in Nishio City, Aichi Prefecture, originally started to console the spirits of war dead and drowning victims. In 2026, this Bon festival tradition marks its 78th edition, with approximately 1,500 floating lanterns drifting on the river surface as Buddhist sutras are chanted. Fireworks burst overhead while lanterns float on the water, creating a fantastical festival of light. Launched over the Yahagi River, the powerful fireworks can be enjoyed up close from both banks (along the embankments).
