The Kumano Grand Fireworks Festival held in Kumano City, Mie Prefecture, is a nationally popular maritime fireworks festival staged against the backdrop of Shichiri Mihama Beach and the nationally designated scenic spot Onigajo. Against the clear sea and vast sandy beach, approximately 10000 shells vividly color the night sky and sea surface. One highlight is the 3-shaku-dama maritime self-detonation spreading approximately 600 meters in diameter, a dynamic performance where the shell explodes on the sea surface rather than in the air, drawing much attention. Additionally, the 'maritime self-detonation' where two boats throw shells into the sea one after another to detonate is a powerful spectacle unique to Kumano.
