Summer Toba Bay Nightly Fireworks

Every evening from July 25 to August 23, 2026, a short fireworks display of about 100 shells — including rapid-fire small ones — rises over Toba Bay in Toba City, Mie Prefecture at 20:30 for roughly five minutes. The launch site rotates through the month: Kohama Bay in late July and early August, Arashima Bay through mid-August, and Sadahama near Toba Station for the final stretch, so visitors can catch fireworks close to their lodging almost any night.

Overview

Rather than one large contest, this is a nightly ritual: about five minutes of continuous small shells tinting the bay's night sky, run by the Toba Ryokan Association (closed on weekends and holidays for inquiries). The venue moves in blocks — July 25 to August 6 at Kohama Bay (the opening stretch runs as the Kohama continuous fireworks), August 7 to 14 at Arashima Bay, and August 15 to 23 at Sadahama. All three sites sit within walking distance of JR and Kintetsu Toba Station (about 5 to 10 minutes), with Arashima Bay about 10 minutes by taxi. No parking is provided around the venues, so most visitors come on foot from their inns or by taxi.
