Held at Yodogawa River Park straddling Hirakata City and Takatsuki City in Osaka Prefecture, this fireworks festival was revived in 2022 after about 20 years and will celebrate its 5th edition on Sunday, September 20, 2026. With the philosophy of 'a fireworks festival that lasts 100 years,' its defining feature is the launch of 4,877 shells—combining the number of children born the previous year in Hirakata, Takatsuki, and Katano Cities with 100 memorial shells for the deceased—a rare initiative nationwide. 'Kurawanka' is an Osaka dialect expression meaning 'Won't you eat?,' derived from the 'kurawanka boats' that once sold food to vessels traveling along the Yodo River. The festival is supported by an executive committee of about 80 members and approximately 700 volunteer staff, and is funded through crowdfunding and local sponsorship, truly sustained by the power of the community
