Summary

The 'Kumano Jofuku Manto Festival (Shingu Fireworks Festival)' held in Shingu City, Wakayama Prefecture, is said to have begun to honor the memory of Xu Fu, who is said to have traveled from China to Japan during the Qin dynasty. On Wednesday, August 12, a memorial ceremony is held at Jofuku Park, and on the following day, Thursday the 13th, the Shingu Fireworks Festival takes place on the Kumano River riverbed, with Approx. 6000 shells vividly coloring the night sky and river surface. Food stalls line the area, drawing large crowds.
