Summary

The 73rd Shimin Noryo Hanabi Taikai closes the Tottori Shanshan Festival on August 15, 2026, at Chiyo Kawara Shimin Sports Plaza in Tottori City. Starting at 7:50 pm, five music-synced acts carry the theme 'For You, For Tottori.' with roughly 10,000 fireworks; last year drew about 100,000 spectators. There is no paid seating, and Tottori Station is a 15-minute walk with paid shuttle buses also running — there is no parking at the venue.

Overview

The show doubles as the festival finale and as a 50th-anniversary commemoration backed by the Nihonkai Shimbun newspaper. The five-part musical structure gives each act its own mood, and the launch count has grown for this edition. Because there is no parking around the plaza, the practical choices are the 15-minute walk from Tottori Station or the paid temporary buses. After the finale, foot traffic funnels toward the station, so allow extra time for the return. Food stalls are on hand if you want dinner on site.

Info for International Visitors

Best arrival time

Aim to arrive 1.5–2 hours before the 7:50 pm start. Viewing space on the plaza fills early and riverside routes get busy. There is no parking at the venue — plan to walk from Tottori Station or take the temporary bus.

With kids

Keep children away from the water's edge and within sight. After the finale the crowd funnels toward the station, so fix a meeting point in advance.

Photography tips

Phone and camera photos are fine. In busy areas, be considerate with tripods and keep walkways clear. With five musical acts, varying your framing per act adds variety.

Payment

Viewing is free. The temporary buses from the station charge a fare, and food stalls generally take cash — carry plenty of small bills and coins.
