Overview

Kisa Fureai Matsuri is the summer festival of the Kisa district, held each August 15 around the waterside park in the town center. As dusk settles, hand-crafted lanterns begin to glow on the surface of the Umase River, and the fireworks that cap the night launch along the water from 20:00. Waterside lights and sky bursts overlapping at close range give the festival its signature scene. Access is easy for a rural festival: 10 minutes on foot from JR Kisa Station, about 5 minutes by car from Kisa IC on the Onomichi Expressway, or about 25 minutes from Mishima IC via Route 184. A free lot provides 500 spaces, filling early on festival day. Food stalls gather around the park, so dinner on site is an option — carry cash to keep payments smooth.
