The "Tomonoura Bentenjima Fireworks" held around Bentenjima in Tomo Town, Fukuyama City, Hiroshima Prefecture, is a historic event originating from the "Benten Festival," a maritime safety prayer ritual dating back to the Edo period, cherished as a regular event heralding the arrival of early summer. Approx. 2000 shells are launched, including star mines and fireworks shaped like sea creatures such as squid and octopus, vividly illuminating the night sky and sea surface of the Seto Inland Sea with diverse displays. Before the fireworks begin, locals perform the "Tomonoura Aiya-bushi," with shamisen and fan dances adding a unique atmosphere to the venue. With Bentendo Hall on Bentenjima as a backdrop, the fireworks reflected on the sea create a fantastical ambiance, and the sight of spectators in yukata filling the area is full of the charm unique to the port town of Tomonoura.
