The 'Uwajima Ushi-oni Festival,' a summer tradition of Uwajima City, has been held for over half a century since it began in 1967 alongside the 'Warei Taisai' at Warei Shrine. It takes place annually from July 22 to 24, with the offshore fireworks adorning the opening. In 2026, commemorative fireworks will be launched in gratitude for the 60th edition. The fireworks launched in the small Uwajima Bay echo off the surrounding mountains, delivering a visceral, body-shaking impact. Paid seating is also available for viewing. On the 23rd (Thu), the 'Bullfighting Tournament / Warei Taisai Venue' will be held, and from the evening, the lively 'Gaiya on the Road' dance will take place. The Ushi-oni Parade on the 24th (Fri) is also well worth seeing.
