Originating in 1650 (Keian 3) as a celebration of the completion of Suitengu Shrine, this Kurume City fireworks display boasts over 360 years of history. One of the largest displays in western Japan, it features approx. 12000 shells brilliantly coloring the summer night sky. Viewing areas are located at six sites: Kyomachi, Sasayama, Komorino, Nagatoishi, Miyaki, and Tosu. Fireworks are launched from the opposite banks of both the Kyomachi and Sasayama viewing areas. Visitors can enjoy powerful fireworks from multiple areas close to the launch sites. The fireworks display is also planned to be live-streamed on YouTube.
