Ogi City Mudskipper Kingdom Ashikari Summer Festival

Summary

An annual event held around the Kaiyu Fureai Park in Ogi City, Saga Prefecture. The Mudskipper Kingdom Ashikari Summer Festival is held in conjunction with Okinoshima-mairi, a traditional event for a bountiful harvest that has continued for about 400 years. Events begin at 18:30, featuring performances by kindergarteners and a local performing arts show. At 20:00 the fireworks display begins, with about 1000 shells coloring the night sky over the Ariake Sea. After the fireworks, the Okinoshima-mairi takes place with young men performing the Taiko-Furyu drumming.
