Summary
Hitoyoshi's signature summer fireworks light up the Kuma River on August 15. Around 3,000 to 5,000 shells (planned) rise for about an hour from 7:30 pm, reflected on the river and framed by the castle ruins behind. The riverside venue around Nakagawara Park draws some 60,000 visitors from inside and outside the prefecture.
Overview
On August 15, the riverbed of the Kuma River around Nakagawara Park in Hitoyoshi City becomes a one-hour stage for an estimated 3,000–5,000 fireworks, starting at 7:30 pm. Shells glow against the castle ruins and double themselves in the river's surface, drawing a crowd of 60,000. Riverside viewing spots start filling in the early evening, so come with time to spare. Plenty of food stalls line the venue. Around 820 temporary parking spaces operate from 6:00 to 9:30 pm; parking outside that window or outside the marked lots is strictly prohibited.
