2026 Tamana Fireworks Festival - 'Totsukemunyaa Tamana Photo Contest' award-winning work - Ura Kijun
Along the Kikuchi River upstream of Takase Bridge in Tamana, Kumamoto, this 10,000-shell autumn show opens with its signature 'single shell of hope'—one launch dedicated to cheering on each spectator's next step in life—before building to a massed finale. Scheduled 19:00–20:00 on October 3, 2026, it draws about 80,000 people. New for this year, the entire west-bank embankment has become reserved seating, making a relaxed riverside view easier to guarantee.
Walk about 20 minutes from JR Tamana Station (or 25 from Shin-Tamana) or drive roughly 15 minutes from the Kyushu Expressway's Kikusu IC; some 2,000 free parking spaces are arranged near the site, though event-day road closures make a final check of the official page worthwhile. Stage performances and food stalls keep the embankment festival-like through the evening. If storms threaten, the whole event shifts to October 4. Reserved seating sells through September 30, with unreserved sections at 1,000 yen. Because launches happen directly over the Kikuchi River, the appeal is doubled: shells blooming overhead and their light sliding along the water below. Road closures ring the site on the day, so drivers should aim for the signed temporary lots and arrive before the evening rush builds.
