A festival where the heroic Hashimatsu (fire pillar), the Furimandoro (swinging lanterns) with the sound of flames cutting through the darkness, and countless lanterns lining both banks of the Nanase River color the summer night. In the Furimandoro, participants walk through the streets swinging burning straw above their heads, and the heat and flying sparks are so powerful they reach the spectators. In Hashimatsu, a bundle of straw, pine needles, and fireworks is attached to the tip of an 11-meter pillar, and participants compete by throwing torches to see how quickly the fireworks ignite. Once Hashimatsu ends, the festival's finale fireworks are launched.
