The Yusuhara Hachimangu Chushu Festival & Hama-no-Ichi is a traditional festival held in Oita City from September 12 (Fri) to 15 (Holiday). On the 13th (Sat), fireworks are launched at Kantan Port, lighting up the night sky for approximately 10 minutes. The festival began in the early Kamakura period when Otomo Yoshinao became the governor of Bungo Province, and has continued to this day. The Chushu Festival originates from the 'Hojo-e Shinto ritual' and is also known as 'Hama-no-Ichi.' On the first day, three portable shrines are carried to the temporary shrine at the resting place, accompanied by the rhythm of the Wataribyoshi performed by parishioners. Kagura and other Shinto entertainment events are dedicated, and a grand market fills the shrine grounds. During the festival, local specialties such as 'shikishi mochi,' modeled after the feudal lord's cushion, are sold, drawing large crowds.
