Miyakonojo Fireworks Festival: Home of Meat and Shochu

Summary

Miyakonojo in Miyazaki is widely billed as Japan's top meat town by combined beef, pork and chicken output, and on October 10, 2026 it throws a one-site festival of yakiniku and fireworks. Eat first: the Miyakonojo Yakiniku Carnival runs from late morning with grills, charcoal and seating provided. Then, from around 19:30, about 12,900 shells fill the sky—a number punning on 'ii-niku' (good meat). Food and fireworks rarely share a venue this neatly.

Overview

The venue is the free plaza of Kannonike Park—about 10 minutes by taxi from Yamaguchi Station on the JR Nippo line, or 10 minutes by car from the Miyakonojo IC, with free temporary parking and a shuttle planned. The Yakiniku Carnival runs 11:00–19:30 on a meat-pack system (3,000 yen advance, 3,500 yen same-day) that covers the meat, grill, charcoal and seats. As the name 'home of meat and shochu' suggests, the local distilling culture is the other half of the town's identity. The fireworks traditionally interleave with a program by the celebrated Omagari pyrotechnists in a same-night double feature. Rain postpones the whole day to October 11 or 12, and shuttle routes plus parking details are announced on the official channels closer to the date.
